Dilsiri just to speed things along i want to share with all two anecdotes my father related regarding his father(Reverend) and elder brother Noel(Doctor.
(1)Old Rev.once wanted to go somewhere and called for the village buggy cart which is available for hire.when the cart arrived he had gone out and asked the buggy cart owner how much he wanted as a fare.When he mentioned the amount the Rev. had shouted to his handyman "simon mage bassthama genna".Next thing the Rev.knew was that the cart owner started yelling 'buddu ammo" and gathering up his sarong bolted leaving his bull and cart behind. Apparently fearing a thrashing he never sighted the place and had sent somebody many days later to collect his cart.. In all probability Rev would have wanted to carry a walking stick with him which was customary for that era but may have been misinterpreted by the carter..
(2)Uncle Noel was apparently a scamp when he was small and was eternally getting upto all kinds of mischief.One day he had got caught to the father and the the Rev was chasing him within the house and Noel got cornered in a room.With no means of escape in sight with the Rev looming over him large as life with a cane in hand he had thought fast and got down on his knees and worshipped the Rev and said " Thatha deiyo budhu wanna mata gahhana epa" while remaining in a posture of worship.Rev was stumped as his anger vanished and he had gone away.Apparently he had gone upto his wife and related the incident chuckling with laughter saying" me kollata mata gahanna baha" .As you can imagine Noel would have been a very cool and fast thinking character....
